Must See: REBIRTH

Posted on 26 July 2011 by Titus Richard

Check out the great trailer for this must-see, ten-year production, about the aftermath of September 11th. REBIRTH is a story of hope and growth in a time of tragedy. Watch the trailer and then read more about this historical film.

REBIRTH is a riveting journey into the indomitable human spirit that drives people to transcend the unthinkable, and rise from the ashes to find renewal and hope. A living history, it is an act of personal witness to one of the most profoundly consequential events in American history – and the unseen healing that has come in its wake. Directed by Jim Whitaker and the result of a decade-long sojourn by a team of renowned filmmakers, REBIRTH follows the transformation of five people whose lives were forever altered on September 11, 2001 – and simultaneously tracks via unprecedented, multi-camera, time-lapse photography the minute-by-minute evolution of the space where the Twin Towers once rose. What emerges from the mix is a singular cinematic experience, at once emotionally intimate and spiritually exhilarating – providing a direct portrait of how grief, anger and chaos metamorphose into connection, purpose and new dreams as the human spirit rebuilds and rediscovers its sustaining powers.

The film as well as other original programming created by the REBIRTH team will eventually be housed at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum located at Ground Zero. All proceeds from REBIRTH will go to the Project Rebirth Center to develop and provide new multi-media tools to aid the therapists, academics, first responders and others working with people dealing with grief.

Forged through the generous support of hundreds who helped shepherd the epic, ten-year production, REBIRTH was produced by David Solomon and Jim Whitaker, with Danielle Beverly serving as field producer. The director of photography is Tom Lappin and the editors are Kevin Filippini and Brad Fuller. The film’s original score is composed by Academy Award winner Philip Glass.

REBIRTH is being released theatrically by Oscilloscope Laboratories in late August (opening in Los Angeles on August 26 and in New York on August 31). In addition, Showtime will broadcast REBIRTH on the 10th anniversary of the events of September 11th.

“Bellflower” Trailer Speaks for Itself

Posted on 14 June 2011 by DttM

I can’t embed it here, but there’s a new trailer for indie toast-of-the-town “Bellflower” on imdb’s homepage.

You can watch it here.

It looks sufficiently bizarre, sufficiently hipster, and sufficiently “Mad Max.”  It was, interestingly enough, shot on custom hand-made cameras.  Looks interesting.

You know you want to see it.

Here’s a teaser trailer, which is nowhere near as good as the trailer linked above:

Obsession of the Week: “The Social Network”

Posted on 20 July 2010 by Jared Richard

Today in this day and age we are subjected to a wide array of advertisements. There are commercials before our movie previews and there are pop up ads advertising products before we buy something on amazon. So needless to say, that it is rare to really feel affected in any way by an advertisement today because of the constant onslaught we have sadly become accustomed to.

This however changed on Thursday when I saw the trailer for the upcoming film “The Social Network” by director David Fincher. Now granted, as of last year I mentioned on the podcast that i would begin to watch less and less trailers in order to be more surprised by the upcoming film releases. To me, trailers nowadays seem to give away so much that you only find a handful each year that actually get you excited about a film without giving it all away, this film is part of that handful.

Every once in awhile, people throw around terms like “a film that defines a generation” and I usually laugh or scoff at a statement such as this. But as an ashamed member of this A.D.D. generation, I will boldly agree with this outlandish statement. “The Social Network”, revolves around the creation of the social networking site FACEBOOK.COM. To put it simply, this film has the writing (Aaron Sorkin – “The West WIng”), the direction (David Fincher – “Zodiac”), and a slew of young talent (Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake). I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about a film of such potential. Since the online premiere I have watched the trailer at least 5 times more.

With a great song (eerie cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”), fast dialogue, and a great tagline (You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies) this trailer is my – OBSESSION OF THE WEEK.

In this episode: Titus and Jared talk trailers. A lot of great trailers have come out since taking a break from the podcast, we discuss the films of 2009 we’re most looking forward to. Oh, and we talk about who currently tops the Douche List.

This was supposed to have gone up much sooner, but life got in the way. The good news is that we already recorded another episode that should be going up shortly.

Check out the trailer for the new HBO series, BORED TO DEATH, here

You can listen to this episode by clicking on the player below, or you can listen, and subscribe for free, to our podcast on hosted by Titus & Jared - Death to the Movies reviews & interviews - Death to the Movies reviews & interviews

Update: The “good news” I referred to above proved to be untrue. Jared never finished editing that podcast, and it just became outdated. I’m getting married in less than a week and things have been crazy, but everything will be back on track soon! – Titus
