When are they going to make….

Posted on 24 November 2008 by Titus Richard

…a movie about GG Allin and The Murder Junkies starring Mickey Rourke as GG?

I’m not saying I would want to see this film necessarily, but it really is only a matter of time before someone actually does it. I’ve had this idea in my head for a while, but it was just recently brought back to my attention when I saw the much-anticipated and finally released trailer for The Wrestler. If The Wrestler revives Mickey’s career then it’s doubtful there will ever be a film on the life and times of GG, but if it fails you just never know. I’m hoping it succeeds though because Aronofsky, in my mind, has yet to make a bad film and the trailer for The Wrestler looks pretty damn good.

Rourke has already been getting a lot of praise for The Wrestler, long before the trailer was even released, so if he gets an Academy Award nomination the chances of him playing a bona fide douchebag like GG would probably put his career back where it was last year. Rourke would be perfect though, they even sound alike with their east-coast-tough-guy accents…and mangled faces.

If you’re unfamiliar with GG Allin (born Jesus Christ Allin), he was a rockstar/anarchist from the 80′s that was known more for eating his own feces and performing sexual acts on stage than his music. Todd Phillips made an up close documentary about GG Allin that was released just days before his death, titled Hated: G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies. Even though GG had promised his fans multiple times that he was going to commit suicide on stage he ended up dying of a heroin overdose in 1993. Big surprise. GG was the lowest of the low, the epitome of scum, the ultimate punk…and he loved it. The movie would be like Sid & Nancy without the made-up, romanticized love story throughout. Alex Cox could even direct! I don’t even remember what the last thing he did was. You would think Todd Phillips would be the obvious choice, but the last thing he did was School for Scoundrels, so probably not.

I think pre-Wrestler Rourke would have been perfect for this part because he was sort of down-and-out in his personal life and in his career, but now that he’s back in the spotlight I’m not so sure. I don’t think eating feces would do wonders for his career right now. Too bad though, could’ve been the Mickey Rourke/Alex Cox comeback, two birds with one stone. It’s got “cult classic” written all over it.

You can see GG in action on many talk shows (including Springer) that he appeared on toward the end of his life. If you click here you can even see him on The Jane Whitney Show with none other than club-kid pioneer Michael Alig who coincidentally also had a documentary made about him and then a feature film with the same title, Party Monster starring Macaulay Culkin. Michael Alig’s story is probably equally as uplifting as GG’s, he was a junkie that is now in prison for murder. Ah, how I miss the 80′s. So, if they can make a film about Michael Alig and the club-kid scene I think it’s only a matter of time before they make MURDER JUNKIE: The GG Allin Story. Remember Hollywood, you heard it here first.

[Note: The reason I chose the 3rd clip from The Jane Whitney Show is because there is a great moment (at 6:03) where club-kid James St. James (played by Seth Green in Party Monster) holds up a mirror with a picture of Michael Alig on it that says "Richie Rich". Interestingly enough, Culkin played both Alig and Richie Rich. You should really watch the clip, GG Allin and Michael Alig in the same room, it truly is a circus!]
